After leaving Colorado (which was really harder than I thought it will be) we flew to New York. We'd be staying there for 3 days so my family would have time to rest and visit the city before going back home.
My first impression of New York was friggin hot, humid, loud, and not my type of city... This place was really hot. But Cali and Colorado hot is still dry hot. All you have to do is find shade and your bound to be hit by some cooler winds... In New York, I felt HOT wherever I was... Not even Thailand was this bad!!! I was seriously surprised and I couldn't wait to get out of the heat.
We got a rent car and started our way to our temporary home. The address was Northern Blvd 150-11 and I put the number 150 into our GPS. Big Mistake..... For future people going to New York, when it says Northern Blvd 150-11, it means it's the 11 address in the cross intersection of Northern Blvd and 150th St. Which in turn means that we were 10 miles away from our final destination. Not really fun when you have a church person waiting there to give you the key to the place... *sigh*
Well that was the first day... Second day, we planned to meet a close church member's son in Manhattan. Since none of us really wanted to go, we made a petty excuse that we didn't want to go into Manhattan by car because it was dangerous there and we had all our stuff in the car...
The church member then called her brother who lived nearby and told him to take us to her son.
Haha so we'd meet up with the church 권사님's brother and we'd take bus/subway to Manhattan and meet with her son. We planned to meet at 6:00 but he wasn't showing up even though it was 6:15. So my mom called him and we found out that we weren't meeting in front of the house... It was at the bus station!! While we were waiting (we were staring at him the whole time!!) So we went on the bus and went to the subway... STOP the New York subway is terrible... worse than the St Pete one.. It has like 7 lines but it is hotter and humider than New York streets and it is really qutie dirty. *bleh* Manhattan is really rough and it isn't like the rest of America at all... All the people are rude and pushy. At target, we saw a family with tons of bags go out the door. But midway, the non-paid-for detector started beeping like mad. She looked back at the security, and then she just quickly started walking out. Haha... we laughed a lot about that. Another really annoying thing in New York is that while driving, if the streetlight turns green and you haven't let go of your brakes, they start honking. Not like a light honk, but they honk till your brake lights go off. Aish... But after meeting with the 권사님's son, we went to Broadway and that really famous place... can't believe I actually forgot it... TIMES SQUARE I actually had to look it up...
well it's really bright there and the people are laying down everywhere on the streets and really chaotic.. Taxis screaming everywhere. We went into the Toys Я Us at Times Square and it was really cool. There was a ferris wheel that started at the basement and went to the 4th floor. All toys.. On the third floor, there was a T-Rex from Jurassic Park that made tons of noises... and pictures being taken everywhere. We left and saw the place where the Lion King was playing on Broadway. (we were going to go for my birthday but too pricy ㅠㅠ)
Third day, we went downtown to the Metropolitan Museum... It was realy cool. Then we went to Central Park and took a stroll but we got too tired from the museum and took a cab all the way down to 5th Avenue. Yellow Cab!!!! 5th avenue is an experience of its own. It's really roudy and I bet like millions of people go there everyday. Anyways really big stores of all kinds everywhere and one store had a moving display belt where shoes would pass on a conveyor belt and spin.. Each spin I think would have a new shoe :) We went and had New York pizza (really good) and bought my birthday presents - Settlers of Catan and expansion Seafarers.
Then we went home and ate at a really cool Chinese restaurant. OH ya we watched GI Joe that day and it was fairly fun.. But it didn't deserve getting 54 million dollars on opening week.
Fourth day was time to go home, but it has a story of its own. The GPS that was working so faithfully kinda broke... Like it couldn't get a signal even when we were still for like 15 minutes...
So we had to go old style to the airport which was like 40 minutes away...
Sounds easy but not in New York where there are like 1 highway/ freeway coming at you every
mile. That and we had a map that was showing the general region of New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Rhode Island. Haha, well we went to a gas station and asked for directions, but none of them seemed to know. We ended up asking a taxi... We got there... somehow got to the rental car place, and took the hotel shuttle to the airport. At the airport, i was planning to get my dad a pack of starbucks coffee beans but stinking Newark Airport has a really [crappy] design. Once you security check, you're done... There was one cafe and one duty free shop with like nothing at all.... the gates are really weirdly designed.... like really weird I can't explain... the gates are all seperate so like there are tons of security checks all over the place. So ya...
Anyways... that was a really long post and took tons of time to write... probably takes a long time to read... Here are some pics that won't take long at all....
